Romanticizing Your Life in 2026 (the Sunnah Way)

These days, we’re constantly seeing trends around slow mornings, gratitude, mindfulness, and discipline. More and more people are becoming intentional about caring for their bodies, minds, and souls. There’s a growing awareness around protecting our time and energy. Women, especially, are leaning into their “feminine energy”, and everywhere we look, people are talking about “romanticizing” their lives.

But did you know that many of these so-called “new” habits aren’t new at all?

In fact, they’ve existed for centuries.

Because didn’t our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teach us many of these practices during his lifetime?

Islam has always guided us on how to care not only for our physical and mental well-being, but for our souls too. Long before wellness trends and aesthetic routines, our deen showed us how to live with balance, purpose, and presence.

And that’s exactly why, in this blog post, I want to show you how to romanticize your life (the Sunnah way!)

To live intentionally, gently, and with Allah at the center.

That is what it truly means to romanticize life the Sunnah way.

So grab a pen, some paper, and a cup of your favorite tea..and let’s begin.

First and foremost, as Muslims, we must start by setting our intentions. This is rooted in the well-known hadith of our Prophet ﷺ:

“Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will be rewarded according to what they intended.”

-

SETTING / RENEWING YOUR INTENTION

  1. Pause and breathe.

Take a deep breath in… and out. Then again. With every breath, remind yourself that this very moment is a gift from Allah. Let Alhamdulillah not only rest on your tongue but also find its place in your heart.

  2. Remember your why.

You are not doing this because it’s a trend or an aesthetic. You are doing this for the sake of Allah. You are caring for your body, mind, and soul out of gratitude for the blessings He has entrusted to you. You are choosing a mindful, intentional life to please your Lord and to purify your heart, striving for a Qalbun Salim (pure heart as mentioned in Surah As-Shu’ara).

  3. Begin with the name of Allah.

Say Bismillah, as you step into this journey.

  4. Make dua.

Ask Allah to ease this path for you, to bless it, and to draw you closer to Him with every step you take.

  5. Commit to renewal.

Decide how often you will pause to reflect, evaluate and renew your intention. We are human, and forgetting is part of our nature.

DECIDE WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

When you hear the phrase “romanticize your life,” what comes to mind?

What do you see? What do you feel?

Perhaps you imagine rose petals scattered across the floor, a warm bath lit by scented candles, a face mask on, your favorite show playing in the background.

And there’s nothing inherently wrong with that (as long as it’s halal and practiced in moderation, of course).

But the journey I’m inviting you on goes deeper than aesthetics.

This isn’t about more - more purchases, more distractions, more things to fill a temporary void. Instead, it’s about less. Letting go of what doesn’t truly matter and intentionally making space for what brings your heart closer to your Lord.

Because at the end of the day, as believers, we have one ultimate purpose: to worship Allah. That worship can take many forms, but the pleasure of Allah should always remain at the core.

So now, I want you to pause and reflect.

What does romanticizing life the Sunnah way look like for you?

Is it living with greater mindfulness and intention?

Is it cultivating discipline and finally working toward the goals you’ve been postponing?

Is it gently releasing harmful habits, one step at a time?

Or is it deepening your connection with Allah?

Be honest with where you are. Be gentle with yourself.

Decide what this journey means for you, and choose where, and how, you want to begin.

YOUR NON-NEGOTIABLE

As Muslims, there are many beautiful ways we can worship our Lord. But among them are acts that are obligatory. One of the clearest distinctions is the establishment of the five daily prayers.

So take a moment and ask yourself:

Have you been meeting your Lord five times a day, as He has asked?

If your answer is no, Alhamdulillah, the fact that you’re here and reflecting means the door to growth is wide open. Start where you are. Learn how to pray if you need to, seek an accountability partner, and take the first step, even if it feels small. May Allah make it easy for you.

And if your answer is yes, then ask yourself: how can I deepen this act of worship?

Can I pray more consistently on time?

Can I be more present, more focused, more intentional in my salah?

One powerful shift I want you to make is this: plan your day around your prayer times, not your prayer times around your day. When salah becomes the framework of your schedule, it naturally becomes a non-negotiable.

To support this, set gentle reminders e.g. alarms 5–10 minutes before each prayer, so you can prepare calmly, without rushing, and meet your Lord with presence and ease.

Because when your prayers are protected, everything else begins to fall into place.

A LIST OF 30 HABITS TO ROMANTICIZE YOUR LIFE THE SUNNAH WAY

  30. End the week with self-accountability, gently realigning your heart.

CHOOSE YOUR PLAN, ACTIVITES AND RESOURCES

A gentle reminder before you begin: this is not meant to be excessive.

In this space, less truly is more.

You’re invited to create a plan - but please don’t overwhelm yourself by taking on too much at once. Our beloved Prophet ﷺ reminded us of this wisdom:

“Take up good deeds only as much as you are able, for the best deeds are those done regularly, even if they are few.”

It’s okay to take things one step at a time. In fact, that’s how lasting change is built.

So ask yourself: What is my plan?

Write down five things you want to begin with. You don’t need to do them all at once. Choose one, focus on it, then gently move on to the next.

You may draw inspiration from the list below, or choose actions that align more closely with your own circumstances and season of life.

Example:

  1. Begin praying Fajr on time.

  2. Make a conscious effort to stop gossiping.

  3. Reduce or stop listening to music.

  4. Reflect on one verse of the Qur’an each day.

  5. Listen to Qur’an while driving to work or school.

Next, think about resources. If you’ll need support, guidance, or tools, now is the time to write them down.

Some resources might include:

  • A Quran

  • A journal

  • An accountability partner

  • A supportive community of sisters

  • Lectures, reminders, or beneficial content

  • Anything else that will help you stay consistent

And remember this beautiful truth: in Islam, even the most ordinary actions can become extraordinary when paired with the right intention. Drinking water, tidying your space, resting your body, smiling, or caring for others can all be acts of worship when done for the sake of Allah.

Now you’ve set your intentions.

You’ve created a plan.

You’ve chosen your activities and gathered your resources.

The next step is simple: begin, with Bismillah.

with love and duas,

Ghena
